PL e / SIL 3 certified Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality, available in select ACS drives, provides machine builders with a simple and cost-effective way to implement machine safety. STO ensures the drive does not generate torque in the motor during a safety event, such as a machine operator hitting the emergency stop switch. These inputs may be connected to a safety PLC or directly to safety sensors, eliminating the need to disconnect power from the drive through expensive relays. Select drives with Safe Stop 1 (SS1) functionality can safely apply a deceleration profile to stop a moving motor upon a safety event.
