Advanced Control Improvements

Version 4.20 introduces several high‑impact control features that significantly improve motion‑system robustness, dynamic accuracy, and flexibility:

Tool Normal

This new capability synchronizes a rotational axis with XY axes to maintain a constant tool angle throughout a trajectory—a critical requirement for advanced machining, laser processing, and 5‑axis motion applications.

PEG Pulse Train

Extending our popular PEG functionality, PEG Pulse Train generates a high-frequency pulse train output without motion which simplifies application development and troubleshooting.

LearningBoost Robust Mode – Beta

A major advancement in adaptive control, LearningBoost Robust Mode identifies system dynamics in real time and automatically applies online corrections. This new mode is particularly effective for aggressive, short‑duration motion, compensating for profile‑induced disturbances and cross‑axis coupling to maintain target performance during rapidly varying operating conditions.

User Defined Algorithms (UDA) – Beta

The new beta UDA framework allows customers to integrate custom control algorithms directly into ACS controllers and drives. Users can now develop, test, tune, and deploy custom servo‑loop control logic, dramatically accelerating innovation for unique process‑control requirements.

5-Axis 3D Processing Control – Beta

This new beta capability brings advanced control for high-precision 5-axis laser processing, dispensing and additive manufacturing applications.  The solution includes selected kinematics, mechanical error compensation, tool point center programming (TCP), SmoothPath motion profile generation, laser firing and is configurable for use with most CAD/CAM packages. 

Enhancements to SPiiPlus MMI Application Studio

MMI 4.20 introduces new tools designed to simplify commissioning and accelerate optimization:

• XY Scope
  A new XY motion‑visualization tool, including a heatmap overlay, allowing users to diagnose contour behavior and motion quality more effectively.
• LearningBoost Wizard – Beta
  Provides guided, intuitive configuration for LearningBoost deployment with both basic and advanced modes. Includes the new LearningBoost FRF Analyzer for deeper performance refinement.

Support for Upcoming Major Product Releases:

Version 4.20 adds support for four next‑generation motion control products designed to increase performance, flexibility, and scalability across complex multi‑axis systems:

• MC4U‑PX — A next‑generation flagship motion control platform with higher performance controller, new ultra-precision NanoPWM Plus drive family, and upgraded power supplies.

• CMac-PX – A new addition to the Control Module family that highlights ACS’s high performance PX controller with a 2-axis drive module with 100-240Vac input and 10/20A output per axis.
• UDMac — A dual‑axis AC‑input EtherCAT® drive module with 100-240Vac input and 10/20A output per axis.
• ECMac — A cost‑efficient dual‑axis AC‑input control module for integration‑dense applications.

These additions expand the SPiiPlus platform and enable OEMs to design more scalable, tightly integrated motion architectures.
